❤️Why You'll Love this Recipe

  • Tastes like a Starbucks drink: It's sweet, thick, creamy, and delicious over iced coffee, cold brew, or tea. It's just as good as a Starbucks beverage.
  • Quick and easy: You only need 2 ingredients, a frother or small blender, and less than 5 minutes to make it.
  • It's dairy-free and vegan!

📝Ingredient Notes

  • Oat milk: I recommend barista blend oat milk. I like the brand Oatsome.
  • Dairy-free whipped cream: I useTruwhip (make sure it says vegan), but other dairy-free/vegan brands should work fine. I've tested this recipe too many times to count with various types of canned coconut milk and canned coconut heavy whipping cream. While it was delicious and healthier, the results were too inconsistent. That's why I use whipped cream. It's fail-proof!

Optional ingredients:

  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon: It won't make your cold foam taste like cinnamon, because you only need a pinch if you use it. Cinnamon enhances the vanilla flavor and makes it extra delicious.

🍯Substitutions

  • Oat milk: You can use any high-fat non-dairy milk that you like the taste of, such as my homemade cashew milk, almond milk, or coconut milk (in the carton), but I will list my recommendations below.

🥛Best Plant-Based Milk for Cold Foam

  • Barista oat milk: Barista milk typically has a higher fat content and sometimes extra protein. They are creamier, and much better for things like coffees and lattes compared to regular oat milk.
  • Homemade cashew milk: This is because of the taste and creaminess of the milk. Some plant-based milks have a weird after-taste, which is undesirable to drink. Homemade cashew milk doesn't have a weird aftertaste. It's pure, luscious, and delicious.

🥣Equipment

  • Frother or small blender

2. Froth the ingredients in the cup until well combined.

3. Pour the cold foam over iced coffee, tea, or cold brew. If you want your cold foam a bit thinner, add another ½ to 1 tablespoon of oat milk.

🧊Storing

Cold foam is best enjoyed right away but it can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. You will need to re-blend or froth it back up, as the contents can separate.

🍫Serving Ideas/Flavor Variations

  • Caramel: Drizzle dairy-free caramel over your cold foam drink.
  • Chocolate: Drizzle dairy-free chocolate sauce over the cream, or grate dairy-free dark chocolate over the top.
  • Pumpkin cream: Mix in 1 tablespoon of pure pumpkin puree and ¼ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice (or to taste) for a fall flavor.
  • Hazelnut: Add some hazelnut syrup to taste for a hazelnut flavor.

✅Pro Tips

  • If you like sweet coffee, either prepare your coffee already sweetened with your choice of milk and sweetener or pour the cold foam on top and lightly mix the cold foam into the coffee with a straw.
  • Thin down your cold foam: If you want it less thick, add another ½ to 1 tablespoon of oat milk. I like to swirl the coffee around in my cup because it thins out the cold foam just enough.
  • Add vanilla extract and cinnamon for more flavor.

❓Dairy-Free Cold Foam Troubleshooting

If your cold foam is mixing in with your coffee like creamer, it could be because of your dairy-free whipped cream. Make sure your whipped cream is chilled before frothing. If it's still not thick enough, add more whipped cream.

Truwhip makes an original whipped topping (with dairy) and then also a vegan whipped topping which does not contain dairy. It's in a light blue container and has "vegan" on the label. You can scroll up to the top of this post to see a picture of what it looks like. I buy it from Walmart. If you aren't able to find their vegan version, you can try another brand of vegan whipped topping or vegan whipped cream from the spray can.
